Keeping Rabbits

Rabbits are a great animal to include in a permaculture system. They are easy to care for, quiet, and very productive. In addition, they will eat many of your weeds and turn it into excellent manure.

A rabbitry has a few basic requirements to maintain a healthy and happy herd. Rabbits need an area that is draft-free and avoids extremes of heat and cold. Honestly, rabbits have a more difficult time with heat than cold. (We use ice-bottles in our southern Indiana summers.) Clean water, adequate food, hay, and healthy treats help ensure good health as well.
