Events

Workshops, design courses, facilitation sessions...this is where we all shine. One of Rhonda's passions is creating containers where we all learn, grow our skills, and develop important relationships that lead to regenerative systems. We highlight events hosted by Sheltering Hills Design, our Touch the Earth project, or collaborative events and conferences where we will be present.

Patterns and Pivots

Resilient Systems for Community Connectors

and sociocracy emerged as powerful responses to challenged systems—industrial agriculture and bureaucratic government. Both frameworks build resilience through distributed intelligence, feedback loops, diversity, beneficial relationships, and pattern recognition over rigid control and analysis paralysis.

This workshop explores how these proven methodologies synergize with Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) to create the collective strength needed for thriving communities in 2026 and beyond. As polarization intensifies and climate disruption accelerates, we must revolutionize how we organize people to implement ecological solutions.

Rhonda Baird (Sheltering Hills Design/SoFA) brings technical expertise in regenerative design and organizational development, while Kathy Sipple (Earth Charter Indiana's Resiliency Coordinator for Northwest Indiana) demonstrates sociocratic governance for decentralizing power and accelerating decision-making.

Moving beyond theory, participants from businesses, nonprofits, and local government will examine tangible case studies from Northwest Indiana, and examples across the Midwest and beyond, where nature-based climate solutions have scaled by shifting from hierarchy to equitable leadership. Learn to identify existing community assets and organize them into agile "circles" capable of enduring disruption and driving cross-sector collaboration for community-led resilience.
